Dublin City Public Library Short Story Competition

Dublin City Public Libraries in association with DCNYF celebrates the Chinese New Year with this Short Story Competition on the theme of the Year of the Snake.

Competition Rules

  • Entry forms may be collected from any Dublin City Public library or downloaded from www.dublincitypubliclibraries.ie or at www.cny.ie
  • Closing date for entries is 5pm Wednesday 30th January 2013.
  • Entries can be delivered to any branch library in Dublin City or emailed with entry form to library.development@dublincity.ie
  • Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested.
  • Entry form must be signed by parent or guardian.
  • Only one entry per person
  • Entrants grant permission to Dublin City Public Libraries to publish the entries online or in print.
  • Children or close relatives of Dublin City Library staff or O’Brien Press staff are not eligible to enter the competition.
  • Stories must follow the theme of the competition (see entry form).
  • Stories should have a maximum of 600 words (no minimum).

This competition will be judged under two age categories: 7 – 9 years & 10 – 12 years. (Age at closing date for competition). Please tick appropriate box on the Entry Form.

Stories will be shortlisted and submitted to poet and author Enda Wyley (author of ‘I Won’t Go To China’ published by O’Brien Press) for final adjudication. The judge’s decision is final.

Winners of our Short Story Competition will receive their prizes at the Dublin Chinese New Year Carnival in the Temple Bar Meeting House Square, D2, on Chinese New Year’s Day Sunday 10th February 2013. Prizes will include a selection of brilliant books published by the O’Brien Press along with a basket of Chinese goodies.
